      Building Relationships Beyond Staff

This past September, Community Living Brant (CLB) hosted Al Condeluci of the University of Pittsburgh to speak to staff on culture, community and social capital.

Al has been providing training to CLB for several decades, and it was in a training session where Brenda Braund, a CLB supervisor, met him.

It was about 30 years ago when Brenda first saw Al speak at Apps Mill. Brenda found Al to be “so dynamic” and developed a passion for and from his teachings.

Local Minister Praises Parish Administrator for ‘Exemplary’ Community Involvement

When Rev. Jason Postma, the rector of St. James Anglican Church in Paris, Ont., is asked to name an inspirational person he sees making great contributions to the local community, he doesn’t hesitate naming his parish’s administrator, Judy Cardy.

Anything related to the church’s activities or local community events, Judy will enthusiastically immerse herself, not because of her job, but because “she loves and values the community,” he says.

For example, a flagship event at St. James, Paris, is the church’s annual festival which has been held the fourth Saturday of every September since 1975.

Jacky and Sherry are the hosts of the Diamond Dots group in Brantford. These wonderful friends love to make and share their works of diamond dot art — a creative activity where you apply rhinestones to a colour-coded image.

Circle of Friends Golf Tournament was a Chance to Visit Friends and Have Fun, Says Participant

Richard dela Rosa says participating in Community Living Brant’s 35th annual Circle of Friends golf tournament on Aug. 18 was an opportunity to see old friends and colleagues as well as show his support for an organization he knows first-hand brings great value to Brant County.

And, of course, it was a chance to have fun playing 18 holes of golf, he says.

Richard is a former Community Living Brant staff member who has played in the past three Circle of Friends golf tournaments, and for him it’s important to keep those ties strong, he says.

Program Leader Shares How Belonging Brant is ‘Essential’ to Building a Vibrant, Inclusive Community

Ali Carson first became connected with Belonging Brant when she was looking for a drop-in program for 2SLGBTQ+ families — but at first, she couldn’t find what she was looking for.

So, realizing there was a need for a drop-in program for 2SLGBTQ+ families, Belonging Brant helped Ali launch one.

“Belonging Brant helped me at every step of the way to launch a queer families’ drop-in program,” Ali says. “They led and guided me in filling a need that was evident in the community.”
