The Pathways Team
The Pathways team is dedicated to supporting individuals in the Brantford community who are unhoused, precariously housed, or at risk of losing their housing. They also assist those with concurrent disorders seeking mental health and addiction services. Embracing a harm-reduction approach, the Pathways team meets individuals where they are at and focuses on developing support networks. In October 2024, the Pathways team will be celebrating three years of providing support to the Brantford community.
Led by Supervisor Christina Lauricella, the team emphasizes cultivating community connections. Christina states, “In the face of the housing crisis, it is essential for communities to unite and advocate for sustainable housing solutions. We must ensure that everyone has access to safe and secure housing, to build a better foundation for the future.” Having witnessed the impact of the current housing crisis, the Pathways team understands the urgent need for stable housing options. They recognize that meeting basic needs, such as having a safe and secure place to live, allows individuals to make significant strides on their path to wellness. By addressing these issues, the Pathways team aims to create a community where everyone can thrive and lead fulfilling lives.
Over the past years, and with the support of numerous community partners, the Pathways team has celebrated many positive outcomes in the lives of those they support. These include helping several previously homeless individuals find stable housing and navigate the housing services, as well as supporting five individuals in practicing harm reduction and safe use and assisting two individuals in achieving their recovery goals. Additionally, the Pathways team has established collaborative relationships with nearly twenty local partners, which have been instrumental in achieving these positive outcomes.
Last year, funds raised from the golf tournament were used to provide outreach support in the Brantford community alongside the Brantford Downtown Outreach Team (BDOT). This year, Pathways is expanding its efforts, partnering with organizations such as the Brantford Public Library and Brant Native Housing to further support the community. These funds also directly support individuals in crisis who receive Pathways services through Community Living Brant.
